Information for Silver Investors
Why Buying and Investing in Silver?
Silver, like gold, is considered a safe haven asset, or a hedge in financial terms, because it often moves in the opposite direction (negative correlation) of other assets like currencies, stocks and bonds. When the price of these assets drops, silver will tend to rise and vice versa.
The volatility of silver has historically been higher than gold, and this is one of the features in its favor amongst precious metals investors.
The supply of silver has stagnated and demand has been rising in recent years.
While gold is almost always repurposed, 90% of silver that has been used once is thrown away without being recycled.
Global Silver Supply
Silver is primarily obtained as a byproduct from lead-zinc mines, copper mines, and gold mines, in descending order of production.
The world yearly silver mine production is ca. 27,00 tons. The four largest producing countries of silver are Mexico, Peru, China and Russia, in descending order of production.
Global Silver Demand
Silver, unlike gold, has many industrial uses, e.g. electrical switches, solar panels, electronics, batteries, medical equipment, antibacterial clothing, purification, mirrors and more. This means that the silver price is partly dependent on the strength of the economy.
